The United States and the World Trade Organization met recently to discuss Canada's request for retaliations. National Pork Producers Council Vice President and Council for International Affairs Nick Giordano says the Canadian retaliation request may be slightly lowered, but that's no consolation prize. Here's Mr. Giordano. "The WTO is going to arbitrate the Canadian claim which is over US$2.4 billion. It is very high. Canadians feel very good about their analysis and I think the arbitrators could conceivably come in with a slightly lower number but we are going to have a big number out there and that is just Canada. We've got a big problem here and we need the Senate to follow the House and repeal country of origin labeling on beef and pork so we are not risking US jobs and US exports to retaliation."

If the Senate fails to repeal COOL, he says U.S. exports will be in jeopardy. The COOL Repeal Coalition is calling on the Senate to pass the bill repealing COOL and send it on to the President to sign, which would stop any chance for retaliations.
