It's Vine to Wine Wednesday on the Fruit Grower Report. I'm Susan Allen. I met a winemaker recently who moved from South Carolina specifically to enroll in Walla Walla Community College's Institute of Enology and Viticulture, Associate Coordinator; Danielle Swan-Froese says they are now offering a year-round program.

Swan-Froese: So the college itself expanded their course offerings in the summer which really opened the door for us. For what we do here at the EV Center it makes a lot of sense that we would be instructing students in the summer time because a lot is happening in the vineyards.

So in their first year in the program, they work harvest and crush here with us at the Center. Then in the 2nd year in the program, they go out and work harvest and crush at another winery so they can have a second harvest experience.

What we had done in the past we would squeeze in a few weeks of lecture before they would go do their harvest internship and then we' squeeze in a few weeks of lecture at the end of their harvest internship so that all took place in the fall.

Now lectures and class work aren't held during crush

Swan-Froese: Then when they go to do the harvest in the Fall that's all they have to focus on they can just really delve into that harvest experience.

lI'm Ready to go back to college how about you. If you have been dreaming about a job in the wine industry check out all your options at the Walla Walla Community Colleges Institute of Enology and Viticulture. website. http://www.wwcc.edu/enology
