Fruit Notes

Fruit Notes. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Here again are a few tree fruit industry stories that might get missed.

WSU has designed a fruit school to present the current science of physiology. They're encouraging participation by industry members who need a refresher and those where this is their first exposure to the topic in a formal setting. They hope that by offering simultaneous English – Spanish translation that a broad audience participates. The fruit school is offered at four locations: Wenatchee, Hood River, Yakima and Richland. Each location will be delivered live to a full size screen and will allow for voice and text interaction during the Q and A sessions. Date: November 17-18, 2015. Cost $160: includes breaks, lunch and proceedings.

The Washington State Wine Commission has released an economic impact study of Washington's wine industry. In 2013, the industry's total economic impact was $4.8 billion in business revenues and it paid $61.9 million in state taxes. (To put that in perspective, according to a study of the apple industry, its economic impact was $7.5 billion in 2013.)

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
