Farm Walks Look At Fruit

Farm Walks Look At Fruit. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Tilth Producers of Washington promotes ecologically sound, economically viable and socially equitable farming practices that improve the health of communities and the natural environment. Their Farm Walks let you get up close and personal with local growers and their products. Angela Anegon is the Education Coordinator for Tilth Producers of Washington and talks about two upcoming Farm Walks.

ANEGON: On Tuesday, August 4th we're going to be at Leach Orchards and that's near Zillah, Washington and that's in Yakima County and we'll be talking about organic pest management for apples and pears. And Leach Orchards is a 60-acre certified organic producer, a fourth generation farmer so we're really excited to go to a farm that has a long standing history.

She says they'll touch on the drought this year as well as labor issues. Then on August 10 they will visit the west side.

ANEGON: Starvation Farms is located in Long Beach and they're the first certified organic cranberry farm in Washington State and they do a great job with growing their cranberries and processing into fresh pressed juice which they sell to markets throughout the west side. We'll be visiting them to learn about how they grow cranberries and how they make those value added products.

They ask that you register on their website at tilthproducers.org.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
