Fire Fund

Fire Fund. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

We have been talking about how the wildfires in Eastern Washington have damaged property and in a few cases, orchards. A fund has been set up assist those orchardists that need some financial assistance. It's called the Community Foundation of North Central Washington Brewster/Pateros Tree Fruit Fire Victims Fund. Foundation Director of Donor Services, Jennifer Dolge.

DOLGE: the Brewster/Pateros Tree Fruit Fire Victims Fund has been set up specifically to support the farm workers and the tree fruit families that have been affected by the fire. You can donate through our website which is cfncw.org. It's going to be helping those families rebuild their lives. We're focusing on doing some long term recovery efforts where we provide some resources for them to get back on their feet.

All the monies will go to help support and assist families in the Brewster/Pateros communities.

DOLGE: We don't charge any administrative fee or any overhead. It's tax deductible, every donation and it's truly to support the families and really help them through the devastation and get them back into homes and working. Right now they're just working on basics like electricity. So we've got a little ways to go.

Over 250-thousand acres have been burned so far and nearly 200 homes have been destroyed so any financial help is appreciated.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
