Labor Issue Training

Labor Issue Training

Labor Issue Training. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Dan Fazio with Washington Farm Labor Association says training is really important for members of your ag operation.

FAZIO: We are getting lots of calls from growers telling us that it is going to be a tough year for labor issues, and so we've got our work cut out for us. The issue that we are working on right now is labor inspections from the federal department of Labor Wage and Hour division.  They're recently stepped up their enforcement activities in Washington State and we do a lot of training about these enforcement activities both on farm, and now we are offering through the convenience of technology of a 5 part webinar series.

Fazio says they have experts set up to teach these training sessions.

FAZIO: We're very proud that we've enlisted some of the top labor attorneys from around the country to help us with this. So webinars are starting soon on April 22 and they're going to be every Tuesday from 11 until noon Tuesday, April 22nd for the next 5 weeks. If people are interested in finding out how to register for those they can go to our website, wafla.org.

He says these are very hands on webinars.

FAZIO: We give you handouts that growers can use. We review them and then we let the grower answer questions and as we always say, you can't ask us a question that we can't answer.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
