CSU's Student Led Agricultural Adventure Day Provides Ag Education for Third Graders

Colorado State University agricultural science students have been teaching hand-on lessons about agriculture to third grade students for more than 15 years. I've seen many different ag educational experiences for youth, but I wanted to share more about this very successful event. And challenge other college ag programs to consider this idea.

CSU Agricultural and Resource Economics Professor Dr. Marshall Frasier shares more about this student-led ag education effort.

Frasier: "We really try to get our freshman to participate a lot. A lot of our freshmen are also limited in their ag background. For them to be able to see what kind of impact they can have on these kids, and their teachers and on their parents that is big. Then this core planning group we have — in all of my 23 years at the university — I've not see a better leadership development experience than this group of eight that gets together and works makes this happen all year long. We will be done with this on Thursday and next week we'll be getting together to start planning for what next year looks like. They work really hard and students have really bought into this. They don't do this for college credit. There is no pay. Its just the intrinsic outcome and the students really appreciate that."
