Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Niki Davila with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Davila: "We had 4,770 tons of hay that traded this week compared to last week. Alfalfa was steady in a light test. Trade was slow with light demand. For alfalfa large square bales supreme delivered price was $155; premium export $160; good quality $125 for export; $130 delivered $155 delivered for export. Alfalfa orchard mix small square bales premium $210 for retail/stable sales and good premium quality was $160 for retail stable sales."

In Idaho compared the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady. Trade continues to be near standstill on alfalfa with light demand as exporters and dairies quit buying. Large square bales of alfalfa rated premium sold sold between $110 to $125 per ton.

In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. Most demand lays with the retail/stable hay. In Central Oregon, small square bales of orchard grass rated good sold for $220 per ton for the retail/market. In Lake County large squares or alfalfa rated good to premium sold for $165 per ton. In Klamath Basin small squares of alfalfa rated premium to supreme sold for $200 per ton. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa large squares rated premium sold for $120 per ton. Harney County had no new sales confirmed.
