Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week. Sanders: “We had about 4,200 tons of hay trade this week, compared to last Friday good alfalfa and export alfalfa were steady. Fair and good alfalfa sold for $10 lower in a light test. Trade remains slow, demand light. Export hay on the good quality sold from $135 to $147 FOB. Retail/stable hay alfalfa on the premium sold from $260 to $265 and Timothy grass for retail hay sold at $210 FOB the farm.”
In Idaho compared to the previous week good and other grades of alfalfa were steady. Trade volume slowed drastically after previous week’s big increase. Trade was very slow with light demand. Mid square bales of alfalfa rated fair to good that had rain damage sold for $90 per ton. Fair Mid-square bales of alfalfa that were bottom bales sold for $85 per ton.
In Oregon, trade generally steady to firm in a light test. Trade remains slow with light to moderate demand. In Central Oregon orchard grass small square bales rated premium for the retail/stable market sold between $240 and $270 per ton. In Klamath Basin, small squares of premium alfalfa sold between $180 and $200 per ton. In Lake County mid-squares of alfalfa rated fair to good with rain damage sold for $120 per ton. Triticale mid-square bales rated fair to good sold for $90 per ton. There were no new sales confirmed in Eastern Oregon nor in Harney County.
