Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Niki Davila with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Davila: “We had 10,475 tons of hay trade this week compared to last Friday. Alfalfa was generally steady in a light test. Trade was slow with light demand as exporters slowed down bids. Timothy hay was steady, demand was light to moderate. Retail hay was also steady, demand remains good. Alfalfa large square premium quality we had $160 to $185 and $180 tarped. Good quality $170 to $175 and $170 for tarped and export. Fair quality we had $140. Alfalfa small square bales premium $250 for retail stores. orchard grass small square premium bales $260 to $275 for retail.”
In Idaho compared to previous week, premium and good Alfalfa continues to be weak. Trade was slow last week. Alfalfa large square rated supreme sold for $185 per ton. Alfalfa large squares rated good/premium organic sold for $230 per ton. Timothy large square rated fair was $105 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to prior week’s prices.   Demand was slow to moderate. Some producers were wrapping up third cutting alfalfa while a few were beginning fourth cutting.  Fires and smoke throughout the counties have limited some producers from being able to move hay. Alfalfa premium quality in Central Oregon trended higher. In Eastern Oregon supreme large square good rated bales of alfalfa sold between $160 and $170 per ton. Harney County reported good large square alfalfa sold for $180 per ton.
