Here with this year’s last weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders who shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “Columbia Basin Hay Report, we had a little over 5,600 tons of hay trade this week. Alfalfa for domestic markets were steady to weak in a light test. Timothy for domestic uses was steady and feed store and retail hay was also steady. Alfalfa small squares sold from $260 to $270 for the retail/stable markets. Orchard grass small squares $250 to $275 also for the retail/stable markets.”
In Idaho compared to the previous week, premium and supreme testing Alfalfa were steady. Trade was slow last week with good demand for non-rained on high testing supplies. Large square supreme alfalfa sold between $225 and $250 per ton. Fair to Good large squares of alfalfa sold for $150 per ton.
In Oregon, prices were mostly steady compared to previous week's offerings for the same quality. Trading was light to moderate during the week with a smaller volume of hay traded than the previous week. In Harney County large square alfalfa rated supreme sold for $235 a ton. And in the Klamath Basin premium large square alfalfa for retail and stable market went for $320 a ton.
