Here with the weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders who shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “For the Columbia Basin Hay report we had a little over 1,100 tons trade this week compared to last week. Alfalfa for domestic and export markets were steady in a light test. Fair to good export hay sold from $220 to $225. Alfalfa small bales premium sold from $260 to $270 for retail/stable markets. Orchard grass hay sold from $250 to $275 for the retail and stable markets.”
In Idaho compared to the previous week, premium and supreme testing Alfalfa were $5 to $10 higher. Trade was slow to moderate last week with good demand for non-rained on supplies. Large square bales of alfalfa rated premium to supreme sold between $190 and $250 per ton. Large square alfalfa rated fair to good that was tarped sold for $185.
In Oregon, prices were mostly steady compared to previous week's offerings for the same quality. Trading was light to moderate during the week with a larger volume of hay traded than previous week. Central Oregon’s large square good but rain-damaged alfalfa sold for $210 per ton. Eastern Oregon’s good to premium large squares alfalfa sold for $230 per ton. Harney County’s large square supreme alfalfa sold for $250 at ton.
