Here with the weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders who shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “Columbia Basin Hay Report, we had little over 10,500 tons traded this week. Compared to last week, alfalfa for domestic and export markets were steady to $5 higher. Premium/supreme dairy hay sold from $250 to $255 per ton. Export hay from $215 to $217 per ton. Small square alfalfa for export market sold for $230 to $235. Retail small square alfalfa sold for $250 to $270. Orchard grass for retail market small square bales sold for $250 to $275.
In Idaho compared to the previous week, Alfalfa was steady to $10 higher in a light test.Trade was slow as buyers try to market higher testing 4th cutting. Demand was good as more California buyers showed up in the market. Premium/Supreme large square alfalfa was sold for $230 per ton where rain damaged large square alfalfa was selling for $200 per ton.
In Oregon, hay prices were mixed compared to the previous week depending on location with higher prices seen in Lake County and Eastern Oregon and all other locations steady to lower. Central Oregon large square premium alfalfa brought $240 per ton. Eastern Oregon supreme large square alfalfa ranged between $225 to $245 per ton. Klamath Basin barley straw fair quality bales brought $70 per ton.
