Pork Scholarships Available

The Pork Checkoff is accepting applications for its Pork Industry Scholarships for 2017-2018. According to Pork Checkoff animal sciences director Dr. Chris Hostetler, this is the tenth year for this scholarship program.

Hostetler: "They are really designed for individuals who are either going directly into production so via a sow farm manager or have their own production facilities or individuals who are going on to further their education in terms of graduate school or veterinary school. Ultimately we'd like to be able to identity and support those individuals who are dedicated to the swine industry and that we think are going to be future leaders within our industry."

The scholarship program is for college juniors and seniors. Hostetler says there is a need to invest in people.

Hostetler: "The swine industry realizes that one of the limited resources going forward is new human capital and leadership within the industry. The animal science committee in particular identified that as a shortfall. They wanted to be able to identify those individuals who are going to be leaders in our industry and encourage them."
