International Study Opportunity for CSU Students

International Study Opportunity for CSU Students

From January to mid-June, 26 Colorado State University students and one professor, spent the semester in New Zealand at Lincoln University near Christchurch on the South Island. CSU Department Ag and Resource Economics professor Dr. Kellie Enns who participated in the exchange shares

Enns: "I had the privilege of serving as the faculty mentor for 26 study abroad students. Our college supports that because they really want our students to get that international flavor of education in agricultural and natural resources. What we saw was a totally different system of production. So a real pasture based production system. But it was real experience for our students to see the variety of production and get perspective on our own systems here in the United States."

She said that most of the dairies, sheep, beef cattle as well as red deer farms were in pasture-based production. The participating students had the opportunity to learn about New Zealand's agriculture first-hand. She continues

Enns: "There is the ups and downs of any international experience adapting to a different education system and a different culture. But I think that every student came back excited to go back New Zealand again and to experience it again. And then having grown because of that experience. I think that every student who has the ability to pursue an international program, should absolutely do it."
