Beef Battalion Steak-fry Set For July 16th

The All-American Beef Battalion -- a volunteer organization that travels the U.S. serving steaks to our men and women in uniform, and their families -- has a steak-fry scheduled for noon on Saturday, July 16, at Fort Carson, where the group will be feeding about 1,000 troops and family members, and about 150 Wounded Warriors. Since the event is happening here in the state, the Colorado Corn will be on hand to help serve. Colorado Corn Communications Director Eric Brown shares more about why they are involved in such a worthwhile event.

Brown: "We love having the opportunity to say thanks you to our troops. It is also beef — hands down — the livestock industry is the biggest buyer of corn here in Colorado. So is kind of a way to support the beef industry and our biggest by far customer of corn here in Colorado."

Brown shares some of the statistics and encourages anyone who might want to volunteer

Brown: "Over the years and we've done one several each a year — that is over $105,000 we've given to the organization to help with this. We've been on hand to help served over 40,000 meals when they come to Colorado. Any of your listeners who are corn growers or a lot of time there is a need for volunteers when we are feeding 2,000 or 4,000 people at a time to help."
