Research Roundtable on dryland organic grain farming

Washington Ag Today December 28, 2010 Washington State University is inviting the public to an Organic Grains Farming Research Roundtable that will be held in Pullman January 10th and 11th.

In 2009 WSU won grant funds from the USDA to support research into dryland grain farming in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Dr. Ian Burke, who leads the project, says the plan for the roundtable is for scientists to report on their short-and long-term organic field research, which includes organic transition studies, crop rotations, integrated pest management and variety development. Advisory input from growers is also wanted.

The workshop will be held in the Lewis Alumni Center on the WSU Pullman campus from 1 p.m. Tuesday January tenth and conclude at noon on the 11th. It is free but people are asked to register by January 5th. You can do so by contacting Diana Roberts at WSU Spokane County Extension 509-477-2167.

Now this from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuiness here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. A vacation here for us. We will be back in business on January 3rd with our first cattle sale of 2011. Markets very strong. Closed out last year with a very strong market, a good cow sale. Some of the best of the cows up at 14-hundred dollars. We sold some cow-calf pairs, big calves at side, big black cows, at 17-hundred-20 dollars so that was pretty much the top for the pairs. All the weigh cows and bulls two to three higher here last Monday and excellent demand for all weights and classes of feeder cattle. We sell cattle every Monday, Stockland Livestock here in Davenport. Thanks for listening and Happy New Year to all of our customers.

Thanks Jack.

I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on Northwest Aginfo Net.
