State Senator comments on ag research and the state budget
Washington Ag Today December 9, 2010 During an electronic town hall meeting this week state Senator Mark Schoesler, the ranking Republican on the Senate Ag Committee, was asked about preserving agricultural research funding at Washington State University in the current state budget environment. Here’s Schoesler’s response. Schoesler: “Some cuts somewhere is inevitable in a budget like this. But I think we have a pretty good bipartisan team supporting ag research. The chairman of the Senate Ag Committee, Brian Hatfield from the Westside, is a Cougar alum and I think Jim Jesernig has done an excellent job of preparing the facts.” The senator also noted the leveraging WSU gets from the contributions from commodity commissions. Now Jack McQuiness has a report from Stockland Livestock Exchange in Davenport. We had 11-hundred cattle on the market here on Monday. Cows and bulls higher again. Sixty-two, 63 dollar top. Most of the trade in the 50s. Bulls topped at 72. That is as good as we have seen since last summer. Feeder cattle, good numbers of feeder cattle and excellent demand all the way through. Light weight calves, some of these 400 lb. steer calves upwards over $1.40, five-weights into $1.30 money and the heifers trading ten to twelve back. Don’t forget the stock cow sale on the 20th . We have another special sale on the 13th and we sell all classes every Monday. Lots of cattle consigned for that bred cow sale on the 20th. Thanks for listening.
