WSU's preliminary budget cut plan; Stockland Report
Washington Ag Today December 7, 2010 Washington State University has put out a preliminary plan on how it will reduce its permanent budget by 13.5 million for the 2010-2011 fiscal year as ordered by the legislature and make an additional temporary cut of 11.2 million for the current fiscal year as ordered by the governor. The preliminary proposal would chop a total of about 4.2 million dollars from WSU’s College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences, the Agriculture Research Center and WSU Extension. The University says no currently filled tenured positions will be eliminated but CAHNERS could lose 12 vacant tenure/ tenure track faculty positions. The Agriculture Research Center would see a nearly 727-thousand dollar reduction in operating allocations. Input is being taken on the preliminary plan and a final plan will be announced on December 15th. Higher again on the cows and bulls. $65 tops on the best of these weigh up cows and bulls. Bulls topped at 72. That is as high we’ve seen since probably last summer and that is the highest we have seen in quite some time. Feeders two to three higher. Some of these seven-weight steers as high as a dollar-15 here today. Stronger market. Big special sale coming up on the 20th and that will be the last sale of the year.
