7-20 IAN HSUS/ICA

Humane Society of the United States and the Idaho Humane Society are not necessarily on the same page when viewed by the Executive Vice President of the Idaho Cattle Association. The Idaho Cattle Association is greatly pleased with the recent success of the legislation the organization has been pursuing regarding animal cruelty which passed the Senate floor with a 31-1 vote. S1303 requires a felony conviction of third-time animal cruelty offenders, rather than the current penalty of a third misdemeanor. The process of moving this legislation forward however was not all harmonious as Wyatt Prescott, Executive Vice President of the Idaho Cattle Association told me. “We took the initiative and through the process HSUS and the Idaho Humane Society came to us and were working with us, or trying to work with us, Idaho Humane Society did a very good job of working with us but the Humane Society of the United States, I want to make it quite clear, is a deplorable organization that has an agenda of abolishing all  animal agriculture. We will never trust them at any turn in the road. They got involved in a large part in our legislation and they ended up trying to hold it hostage for a lot of provisions that they were demanding and the industry that our legislature did not believe a lot of their rhetoric I guess.
