Wingshooting, Big Game and More...
The website says “We invite you to come experience what we have known for three generations...over 33,000 acres of diverse and challenging hunting terrain, picturesquely framed by the foothills of the Blue Mountains in Oregon.” I had to call Paul Ellis, owner of Ellis Hunting Ranch and find out exactly what that meant. “We have been in business now for 12 years. We are wheat farmers and we looked for other ways to generate revenue out here in a very rural part of Oregon. We own some property and lease a lot of other ranches. A sickly manage them for trophy quality. We do elk, Whitetail, mule deer, Turkey, wild pheasant hunting and we also do the put and take birds 8 months out of the year. When you say put and take, are you talking exclusively pheasant or does that include quail? Pheasant, quail, huns and chucker. We have 3 different shooting preserves right now and were getting one more in this year. It varies in terrain. We have been 100% successful in terms of opportunity. We have had 3 clients not take home a deer and that is because they turned down bucks that they couldn’t better themselves with.” Speaking of bucks...very affordable.
