In many ways, from veterinary medicine, to feeding and understanding equines it’s gotten easier to be a horse in the 21st century, breaking horses has given way to low stress gentling techniques called natural horsemanship. I’m Susan Allen when Open Range returns the wisdom of the master trainers applies to other aspects of life especially sports. Ray Hunt and Tom and Bill Dorrance, are considered the fathers of what is now known as natural horsemanship, made popular by the movie Horse Whisperer, here’s a few of their quotes and wisdom: "If your horse bolts, there's probably a “nut” loose in the saddle." “It's not the goal so much as who you have to become to achieve it.” “The more I learn, the smarter my horse gets.” "When horses get scared, they don't think you are going to hurt them. They think you're going to kill them”.” Here’s a favorite,” Know what happens before what happens happens!” When I hear somebody talk about a horse or a cow being stupid, I figure it's a sure sign that animal has outfoxed them" -Tom Dorrance A bad tempered man will never make a good tempered horse, Take the time it takes so it takes less time. The famous” Ray Huntisim : "Make the wrong thing hard and the right thing easy.""Pressure motivates but its the release that teaches". "When you get savvy, what used to become frustrating now becomes fascinating." "Practice doesn't make perfect. Only PERFECT practice makes perfect." Act like a partner, not a predator ." "Inside every wild horse is a gentle horse; inside every gentle horse is a wild horse.".
