Washington Congressman Doc Hastings has written to U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk to request the interests of American dairy producers are carefully considered as a new Trans-Pacific Partnership (TTP) Agreement is developed. Hastings continues to see good trade opportunities as key to agriculture.
HASTINGS: In a slowing economy like we have the best way to try to recover is to open markets and there are three trade deals that are pending; the Columbia Free Trade agreement, the Panama Free Trade Agreement and the South Korea Free Trade Agreement. Unfortunately, principally because of the opposition of organized labor we don’t even have an opportunity to vote on those issues. I think if they were brought to a vote in the House they’d pass.
The Treasure Valley area of Idaho is under siege by something called RSV, Respiratory Virus and it is hitting the young and the old hard. Doctors are seeing at least a 20 percent increase in patients from last year. Parents all across the northwest with young kids should be on the watch for the following signs of RSV -- cough, fever, shortness of breath, wheezing and pneumonia. For adults it's a sore throat, runny eyes, runny nose and bronchitis. Good news is that it usually runs its course in about a week.
