June field days

Farm and Ranch June 8, 2009 The June calendar is full of field days around the Pacific Northwest. Some major events get underway this week. Tomorrow is the Pendleton Field Day in Oregon. AgInfo’s Greg Martin has the highlights of the field tours.

Martin: “Registration for the Pendleton Field Day beings at 7:15 a.m. with plot tours starting at 8:25. Participants will hear about managing Root-lesion nematodes, weed control in no-till fallow, the potential of winter safflower as a crop, winter barley development and growing canola in wide row spacing. Growers will also see wheat variety trials and hear about carbon sequestration and alternative cropping systems. 25

On Wednesday June 10th is the Sherman Experiment Station Field Day where many of the same topics are on the agenda but there are also presentations on winter and spring camelina and the probability of rain in September and October at Moro.

Coming up June 18th is Washington State University’s Lind Field Day at the experiment station near Lind, Washington. Winter and spring wheat breeding, drought resistance in wheat and camelina are among the items on the agenda.

The University of Idaho’s Parker Farm Plant Science Field Day at Moscow is June 24th starting at 8:00 a.m,.

On June 25th it is the WSU/USDA Precision and Direct Seed Field Day at the Cook Agronomy Farm near Pullman. Tours begin at 8:00 and the luncheon address will focus on ten years of research at the farm and what has been learned.
