Compressed Air Workshop

Compressed Air Workshop

Compressed Air Workshop. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Making energy saving a key part of any farming operation is part of an important message that WSU is trying to convey and according to Christine Love, Industrial Services Manager for Washington State University Extension Energy Program that is what their goal is.

LOVE: My program is to specifically help industrial manufacturers in Washington State to identify and  implement energy efficiency improvements and so that helps with their costs, their productivity, their competitiveness and all sorts of things and basically just improves their bottom line.

That includes the use of compressed air in wineries.

LOVE: We have worked some with some wineries here in the state including Columbia Crest winery and compressed air efficiency is one of the energy hogs in most wineries. There are other things that are important like refrigeration and lighting and things like that but compressed air efficiency is something that wineries are interested in and should be interested in improving.

The amount of savings can be significant.

LOVE: This training that we are going to be offering at the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers conference is all about fundamentals of compressed air systems. It’s an introductory course. It’s really designed to help anyone in a winery. If they implement these measures they can achieve up to 15 to 25% cost savings.

More tomorrow.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
