I think the White House should declare a “national nut emergency”. I am NOT talking about peanuts, pistachios, or any other naturally grown variety, I’m referring to that bag of mixed nuts known as the fanatical food police. You know, the people who know better than you do what’s good or not good for you. Their newest battle cry is of course over taxing sodas. And scary as it may seem the President of the United States is actually considering such a tax to help stop obesity in our country. Right. You and I both know that it’s not about concern for the welfare of the overall public. It’s about raising easy money. Earlier this year a study concluded that only a 1,200 percent tax on soda would affect our nation’s obesity rate. You heard me, 1,200 percent. Obesity isn’t all such a tax would affect. One has to ask if these zealots have even considered the number of people such a tax would affect economically in the loss of sales, in turn resulting in a loss of jobs. Most Americans oppose such a tax proposal. They know that a soda tax would be the opening of a Political Pandora’s Box.
